Personal Statement
My Father was a photographer's mate while in the US Navy. Some of my earliest memories are of watching him, amid the odd smells of chemicals from even odder-shaped bottles, as he poured developer, washed negatives and hung prints from a clothesline strung across the room. The red light from a single small bulb cast a peculiar hue across everything in his darkroom, including us. While glowing like an alien from some distant red-sunned planet, he taught me much about the methodology of photography. My Father though, as good as he was technically, was more interested in the process than he was in the esthetics of the final product. While he took, developed and printed many great shots, he never cared to look at a finished print with the artist's eye to see where a picture often hid in the midst of the light and its partner, the shadows.
On the other hand, my Mother, a world-class watercolor artist, won award after award in prestigious juried exhibits all over the country, but the only thing she could take a picture of was her thumb. Nevertheless, she too was a great teacher. From her I learned much about such things as painting, art history, color theory and composition. I thought for some time about becoming a painter. She encouraged me, going out of her way to open doors and create opportunities. I certainly did not want to disappoint her, but I never found painting to be as interesting as I thought it would be.
Both my parents, then, contributed to my chosen medium. My Mother's great eye and sense of artistry combined with my Father's careful and practiced photographic technique brought me to my own style, my own artistry.
I hope you find in them the love I feel for each of these pieces. May they stir your soul, nudge your spirit and elicit an emotion in ways that are unique to you.

Biography
I grew up in the mountains of Colorado, went to college on the Eastern Slope, then went to graduate school in California, returned to Colorado and made my home there until 1999 when I moved to Arizona's Sonoran desert. This is my home now and I love being here. The desert is alive and beautiful. It is magical, mystical and above all, magnificent.

I am also a writer with several publishing credits, a web designer & programmer, and I very much enjoy cooking (especially for my friends). I collect (too many) antiques, and love hikes in the desert where, as you can see, many of my pictures are taken.
As a free spirit who is deeply spiritual but very anti-religion, I have condensed it all down to one universal law: "The only sin is the withholding of love." Hold that thought in your heart and you will always do right, no matter what the situation.
