Artist's Statement:

I like the feeling of being free that a blank canvas provides. I am free to create, free to play, and sometimes free to make mistakes. For this reason, I purposefully try to avoid having a pattern or firm constraints when I sit down to paint. Some of the best and most satisfying pieces I have done have come when I have absolutely no idea what I want to lay on the canvas. Conversely, some of my worst paintings (in my mind) have been created while trying to follow a pattern or sketch I have made in advance. The paintings I create are scenes I am familiar with, mountains, trees, ocean, farmland. Having grown up in the northwest and living here most of my life, I am blessed to live in an area with so much diversity and majestic beauty.
