Mood: Determined

i am reading a book about art marketing.

one of the suggestions in it is an idea on how to do

work that people can identify with and possibly

purchase.

the idea is to ask people who like your work

what it is they  specifically like or dislike about your work.

i was hoping for artists on this site to check out my

page and let me know what they think,

and i will try to do the same for them.

any thoughts?

Darrell,

At first, I was struck by the minimalism and tonality. Liked it from afar. Interesting combinations & blocks of hues. Though the second thing I noticed were the frames. Some are nice, while still others seem a little over the top & grandiose, considering the smallish subject matter. Seems like the frames are from hotel rooms, which is perhaps why you chose them - I dunno.

Secondly, upon closer inspection of the craftsmanship you should take a life drawing refresher. I know every artist - myself included - should cease life-drawing opportunities regularly. I also think you should revisit your general shading/lighting principles. I see shadows where there should be light and vice-versa. Important stuff that divides the amateurs from the pros.

Also, work on your blending, too.  Works that small need to be either freshly done with strokes that look spontaneous & not heavy-handed - or - they need to be blended well and with a certain degree of consistent layering of paints. It lacks subtlety and seems harsh. Maybe you should consider larger pieces and getting the figures done in larger, more bold strokes if being patiently realistic isn't much fun for you. Just an idea.

Thirdly, after the first few looks at several pieces, a certain monotony on the body of work set in that I'm unable to put my finger on as to why. Perhaps the rather predictable composition of rectangle, drip, figure & horizon line.  I like the drip/box treatment at the top of every piece, but I'd like to see it utilized in other places off the plane, as well.

I'm hardcore, dude, when it comes to being critical when someone asks because it's so important for us...I invite anyone else to do the same with my work, as well, fyi...

i like you're colors, talent, surreal view, horizions lines, depth, shadows, great stuff!!!

since you asked.... :)  i would only offer three suggestions....

1-no frames around your art

2-painting on stretched canvas that are gallery wrapped and depth

3-you're signature.....develope a signature that would refect and compliment your art.

thanks for sharring you're images of you're werks.
