There is a war going on between the church, our government and the gay community over marriage. I want very much to marry my male lover (we are gay males) but the bigots in the church have denied us our freedom through governmental influence. Marriage is not a religious term; rather marriage is a governmental term that provides status - a license. I would like to add that my lover and I went to Los Angeles on September 16th of 2008 and there, were married. According to state law of California we are married and I don't give a dam what the church thinks. Also no matter what happens to Prop8 we will still be married. roux1898

As a hetero male, I feel you should be entitled to the same rights (and miseries) as anyone else. Marriage, civil unions, or whatever buzzword the media calls it, fail about 50% of the time in these United States. Why should a gay man or woman be excluded from this? Of course I joke, but the truth is excluding roughly 10% of the population from the rights of the rest is wrong. It was wrong 200 years ago and is still wrong. Just my opinion. Peace...

George Bernard Shaw once said that Christianity is the greatest religion that no one practices. Instead of worrying about the church, Christians should listen to the words of their Savior and head the Beatitudes. I don't know what's worse, sin or ignoring the meaning of those teachings. I'm not a foaming-at-the-mouth Christian, but I know wisdom when I hear it. Love is love, after all is said and done. There's a Latin saying: Illegitimi non carborundum. don't let the bastards wear you down. There's another saying about politics, too, it's the art of satisfying the irritating without irritating the satisfied. So keep being an irritant until you get what you need.

There are a whole lot of wrongs being practiced in the name of religion and "god" these days (as it has always been). As a hetero male I also think that the right to marry should be granted to same sex couples and don't see one legitimate reason for this not to be granted or one convincing arguement as to how this will "harm the institution of marriage". It is a shame so many people want to pull us backwards instead of propelling us forward as a society. Yes, life is not all peaches and cream! However, there are those of us who can maintain a relationship beyond the stereotypical time frame, be they gay or straight. As I pointed out in my profile I had a relationship for forty one years. It is not as hard to do as one might think. I want whatever term is used for for marriage worldly, to be the term for my relationship. To have anything else would be separate and unequal thus giving the bigots a chance to discriminate. It would become an "US" and "THEM" thing instead of "US'!!!!!!!!
And believe me I am not joking. I am fed up with religious bigots.

I totally support your right to be MARRIED, not just "civilly unified". I also feel bad that this is causing such an immense amount of tension in your life. What do you really care what a bunch of hypocritical oafs think anyway? The more you fight something, the stronger the opposing force seems to become. Focus on your relationship, enjoy that, cherish it. Use it to show people what a good relationship can be regardless of who loves whom. Be an example to all. Let the anger and hatred go. I don't say this to belittle your struggle, but out of a concern for your peace of mind.

I love the beatitudes, too, in that they illustrate the Political Right's flatulence. I know & love that Sinclair Lewis reference well and use it often to illustrate that your strong convictions and their strong convictions can be a cleaving thing. Interesting that the word "cleaving" means to (1) adhere firmly and closely or loyally and unwaveringly, and; (2) divide by or as if by a cutting blow. So if one's wrapped up in the flag and carrying a bible, the other's wrapped up in the Declaration of Independence and carrying a fabulous clutch. Either way, que sera! I belong to at least 100 different online art sites, some of them are gay. And never have I had so much support as comes form you folks on this site. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! However, I CAN NOT SIT BY AND DO NOTHING-I understand what you are saying BUT If the black people had done nothing they would still be riding in the back of buses!
Let me add I do not hate anyone!!!! I will not be quite while the bigots denies me and my community the freedoms that this country was built on. I am using my art as a way of protest, I am 76 years old and I don't belive I do much in the way of street protest.

I sincerely hope you do not consider all Christians "religious bigots." While many wrongs have been committed in the name of God, God himself is not to blame. Nor should all Christians be judged by the actions or words of a few. And while I can agree there are those who claim Christianity yet do not live what they spout, there are others who are Christians. There are those whose lives reflect the love of God. While they may not be perfect, there is a gentleness of spirit and a kindess of soul. They exemplify loving their neighbors, even if there is a difference in beliefs. I don't want to sound political or preachy. I can understand raging against ignorance and bigotry. It's disheartening whether against women, blacks, gays, Christians, or middle-class white guys. Just don't stereotype out of frustration. Holding out love, CGreen

NO NO NO NO NO The only so-called Christians who are bigots are people LIKE jerry falwell, and fred phelps. These guys haven't the siltiest idea what TRUE Christianity is all about. They are so full of HATE that they can not see the truth. Ignorance is the sole mate of hate.
I will not tolerate Christians or anyone else denying me and my comunity our rights.
I use my art as much as I can in the effort to make a differance.
