scene from columbo

I cannot seperate art from living. If i was more brave i would push the envelope more and more. As it is it has taken years, decades even, to really start to get anywhere. It is a struggle being a poor boy and wanting to make art.
I love seeing other people's work and recently can stand to look at and talk about my own. I ned to make the next step, not that i really know what that is.
viva la arte.

Up until about four years ago i could realistically be catorgorized as an outside artist. no training, no education. I am slowly forcing myself to be more outgoing and learn the "art" of self promotion. I have been told i am talented. will that be enough?????

Hey, it's been a long time. I finally got settled into Minneapolis, only to uproot and return to Texas-- Until Spring, when I return to Minneapolis for a couple of weeks. Then, it's off to Alaska. How is the artwork going? How have you been?

Hey, thanks! The image is actually a photograph... my reflection in a huge copper drum a the Jameson Distillery in Ireland with a simple levels adjustment in photoshop. I'm pleased that you had to ask! I love to push the boundaries of photography, whenever possible... to obscure the often rigid line between mediums. I feel that you've achieved the same in your pieces "Somerville Nocturne 1" and 3. They have a dreamlike, photographic quality to them... absolutely beautiful!

Stay blonde pony boy! The persistance in this passion will be the evidence of your courage. The works great. the somerville nocturines ( from these low res pics) are well modeled. you have nothing to worry about.

yeah. i love old horror flicks. their so horrible you gotta love them. the b/w piece would be awsome. you plan on useing pastel or charcol or what... ink would be cool to but i guess if your looking for a more realistic look id go with charcol...anywho...yet again more rambeling...you got a myspace by chance???

hey there. well i don't have much traditional art experience beyond typical art classes. mostly i was interested in the 3d look and learned more about graphic design. but i think computers can be useful for any artist or creative person.. even if it is just enhancing a real-life painting or cropping something you scanned. learning graphic basics can really help all that. even for 3d renders i usually have to edit them in photoshop to adjust them

not alot new goin on. still stuck in the "instant gratification," as you say. workin...tryin to make a livin as an artist. ive started a series of pastel works. as soon as i get some pics of them ill have to post them so you can see. hopefully i can sell them. id way rather do art and sell it than have to work for someone else. granit im an artist for a livin but...its not the same. anyways...im done blah blahing for now...anything new with you???

thanks for the comment. 3d art is fun but you need alot of software to get started and a fast computer (or access to all that in a school or something). then you have to learn the software which takes a loooong time. but i guess that is true of everything. i find it hard but i'm learning, even though i still just do basic stuff.

Hey, noticing the beauty of Nature, when left to herself, is greater than all of humanity's mimickry-- on that we definitely agree. One of my greatest moments came about not too far from the studio-- watching crabs swim through the polluted waters of Newtown Creek. There are numerous trees in the city who's struggles for survival have made them the most captivating things I have ever seen. I love to study their exposed root systems, burls, and cavities, and consider them natural feats of engineering. Have you, or are you currently taken/taking any botanical courses?

Hey reino, great work. I, too, know the pain of needing to create, but having to do so in a financial vacuum. I've been exhibiting at the nonprofit galleries, in NYC, since 2001, and don't much care for the the commercial venues. If there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I see we have a common connection (botany). The theories drawn from keenly observing the plethora of species within the Plant Kingdom serve as the impetus for all of my creative births, as well as for my life as a whole. I'd like to open a dialog with you-- perhaps I could learn a bit more about the struggle of creation. Gregory Singletary (GRE.JO.S.)
