Sharon Kyle was born in Houston, Texas and spent most of her early adult years working in sales and commercial real estate in Houston, Dallas and Atlanta. In 1991, she relocated to New York from Atlanta to complete a degree in Art.
Shortly after moving to California in 1996, she taught adult art classes at Hunter?s Point Studios in San Francisco where she was a member of the San Francisco art community. In 1998 and 1999 she exhibited in SOMA Art Gallery and exhibited in the San Francisco Open Studios. In 2001, she and two artists exhibited at The Art Works in San Jose, California and together they exhibited their work several times at the Alameda Art Works in San Jose, California. Also, in 2003 she exhibited her large scale plaster sculptures in the ?No Exit? show which was shown in a 20,000 sq. ft. warehouse space in San Jose, California. In 2004, she exhibited her work at the Citadel in San Jose, California.
Most recently her work was shown at The Blue Start Center in San Antonio and she participated in the Self Portrait show at the Austin Figurative Gallery in Austin in September, 2007. More of her work can be seen in the EAST Austin Open Studio Tour in November.
In addition to working large scale and primarily using oils and recycled found objects, she also works with encaustic materials. While attending an encaustic workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2003, she discovered a passion for working with encaustics which is an art form using beeswax and various pigments, then infused together using heat. She often uses found objects along with cheesecloth to create the unusual texture seen in her pieces. Then she begins each piece by mounting these objects with layers of wax onto wooden panels, infusing them together with a heat gun and the end result are paintings with bold colors and extremely interesting textures which have life and energy.
In 2005, she and her husband moved to Austin, Texas where she now works full time as an artist. She has works in numerous private collections. Although art is now considered her full time profession, she still finds time for working with residential design projects, remodeling interior spaces and entertaining. She has enjoyed travels to Budapest, Prague, Germany, Austria and most recently she traveled to China. A trip to Hong Kong and Thailand is planned for the end of year. The people she meets and the places she visits are always a part of her creative inspiration.
